Ian Hay LMPA, LBIPP was born in Shipley, West Yorkshire. His family moved to the US Airforce Base in Isfahan, Iran, where a ride in a Huskie helicopter sparked an interest in aviation. This eventually led to a career with the Metropolitan Police Helicopter Unit as an air observer and photographer, flying over London on a daily basis.
In 1999 Ian started his own aerial photography business, Flight Images. The company quickly gained a reputation for stunning and conceptual photography, winning four Certificates of Merit and the 2005 Fuji Film Commercial Category at the British Professional Photography Awards. Ian has brought invaluable skills to Flight Images, which has a reputation for tackling technically difficult projects. Such projects have included GPS pipeline surveys in Kazakhstan for Chevron Texaco, flight simulator imagery for the US Navy and an infrared archaeological survey in Greece for BBC Horizon.
Flight Images have published 12 books, including London from the Air, Football Grounds from the Air, Yorkshire from the Air and, most recently, Britain from the Air.
Ian is now delighted to make some of his favourite aerial images available via the EasyArt Academy.
